SDI’s Twin-Pit Latrine Project Brings Sanitation to Extreme Poor
Self Development Initiative (SDI) is transforming sanitation in Bangladesh by providing post twin-pit improved latrines to the most vulnerable communities. In 2025, SDI constructed 3,479 latrines across multiple districts, benefiting around 17,400 people.
These eco-friendly twin-pit latrines reduce open defecation, prevent water contamination, and improve overall community health. Designed specifically for the extremely poor, they ensure safety, hygiene, and dignity for every household.
Implemented under the guidance of the World Bank and DPHE, this initiative is part of SDI’s ongoing commitment to improving sanitation, health, and living conditions for marginalized families in Bangladesh.
